Future careers

The program prepares students for various careers and helps them develop a personal musical and artistic approach that considers the current developments in the artistic fields.

A professional musician’s career often includes a wide range of activities (“portfolio career”):

  • Orchestra musician, member of an instrumental or vocal ensemble
  • Chamber music, live performance
  • Live performance, cross-disciplinary artistic projects (music, dance, theater, etc.)
  • Musician-teacher, conservatory or music school teacher (bachelor in music and vocal teaching (DE))

Particular emphasis is placed on autonomy and preparation for research (treatises, repertoire research, historical context, organology, edition, etc.), in order to help students develop a personal approach that takes into account the current evolution of early music.

Specific sessions and projects

These sessions, led by the instructors of pôle Aliénor and/or external guests, may result in performances. Some sessions are organized in partnership with specialized ensembles, other fields of study, or other higher education institutions in France or Europe, such as the Haute École de Musique (HEM) in Geneva, VSMU in Bratislava, etc.

Instrumental collection

4 harpsichords (Titus Crijnen after Couchet and Giusti, Patrick Chevalier after Hemsch, Fonvielle), consort of 11 recorders (Francesco Li Virghi after Rafi), 2 traversos, 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello da spalla, 1 organ (Quentin Blumenroeder, after a 17th-century Italian organ), 1 Walter pianoforte (copy by Benjamin Renoux). Thanks to the partnership with the Conservatoire de Grand Poitiers and the Université de Poitiers, students also have access to 2 positive organs, 3 harpsichords, a consort de 20 of 20 recorders (after Praetorius and Rafi), as well as to the organs in the city of Poitiers (Notre-Dame la Grande, Saint-Pierre cathedral, etc.)
